I spent the weekend cutting out paper snowflakes and stars. The star pattern is from PaperMatrix, and the snowflake patterns are mostly from Whitney Lunt’s snowflake pattern book (alas, my skills do not extend to snowflake design!).
I might make a tutorial on the stars, as the instructions on the website were less than easy to figure out.
Before that, however, I spent an evening or two embroidering a few squares on the baby quilt. We don’t know yet whether it is a boy or a girl, so I am trying to keep the designs as generic as possible 🙂
The two thick circles inside the sun are a cool composite stitch, interlaced chain stitch. You might be able to see I used two slightly different yellows for the chain stitch and the lacing.
The outside of the pink heart is half-interlaced chain stitch (tutorial). The little “spikes” are where I tacked down the pink lacing to make it less floppy.
A quote from Bambi…
… and one from a song my mom used to sing when I was a baby 🙂
The larger picture… the pink square is the very center of the quilt. More blocks will be embroidered soon!
